Be an Artist not a Fo artist (aka a Fartist)

I don’t know what it is with this time of life I’m in but I think I’m having basically realizing what happened in my 20s. One of the things I’ve realized is that I spent about 20 years of my life surrounded by people in my college and graduate school who would look like artist and talk like artist but never actually made art. And by art I mean make any piece of work at all. It didn’t have to be good it just had to be something. To quote a favorite professor of mine “Crap in hand is better then two birds the bush.”
In fact, I would say that almost all the people I went to school with in the Visual Arts would fall into this category none-art-making-artist. So I’ve come up with a term to describe people who look and talk like artist but never make art “Fartist.” Please feel free to use it. I hope to embarrass people into over coming their fears and make something.
I want to be clear that nobody who rents from is a fartist. If you are renting a camera clearly you are making a work and thus are an artist not a fartist.
